ST. GEORGE — Nine-month-old identical twin sisters from St. George were featured in the bright lights of Times Square, their photo celebrating strength and beauty while raising awareness for Down syndrome.
"I just think they are capable of more things than we realize," said the twins' mother, Daniela Castillo. "Maybe it's just seeing them through a mother's eyes, too. We don't see that. We don't see a disability."
Twins Violeta and Celeste Tellez were featured in Times Square on Saturday, during the National Down Syndrome Society's annual Times Square Video Presentation. The twins' photo appeared on two Jumbotron screens sponsored by Clear Channel Outdoor, located above the Dos Caminos restaurant in Father Duffy Square. The presentation streamed live on the National Down Syndrome Society's Facebook page.
The one-hour showcase displayed more than 500 photographs of children, teens and adults with Down syndrome, representing all 50 states and 11 countries. Shown on two screens in the heart of New York City, the images celebrated and spotlighted individuals with Down syndrome in one of the world's most visible locations.
