ROY — The Utah Department of Transportation is warning motorists in northern Utah to expect delays on I-15 in Weber County during Tuesday morning's commute.

"Major delays" are expected on southbound I-15 near 5600 South, UDOT said in a social media post. At least one lane will be closed while the road damage is being fixed, UDOT spokesman John Gleason explained.

Gleason said the damage occurred in a construction area where the concrete transitions into asphalt. Workers put a patch on the area Monday but will be working on a more permanent fix overnight and into Tuesday morning.

The cause of the damage has not been determined, but is likely due to the temporary configuration of the area from construction causing material to come loose, Gleason said.

Using alternate routes such as West Davis Highway, I-84, state Route 126 or transit, is encouraged.
