ST. GEORGE — The trial opened Monday in the case against the 30-year-old man accused of killing a 2-year-old in Washington City last year, where the treating physicians outlined the injuries the toddler sustained that ended her life.
The jury was seated in the case of Randy Holt Lessing, 30, who is on trial on charges of first-degree felony reckless child abuse homicide and obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony.
The case was filed following an incident reported on July 19, 2023, when police received a call that an unconscious 2-year-old had been admitted to St. George Regional Hospital.
Physicians told detectives that the toddler, Emmaline Mitchell, had sustained significant trauma to her head. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was flown from St. George to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, where she died five days later
