Being a dog owner in the summertime presents its challenges. On one hand, ensuring your furry friend gets ample exercise and fresh air is crucial. On the other hand, the soaring temperatures and intense summer sun can pose serious risks, potentially endangering your beloved pet's health.

According to Barri J. Morrison of PetMD, dogs can easily overheat even when temperatures exceed 70 degrees. This puts them at risk of heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses. Things get even more dangerous when talking about 80- to 90-degree weather, typical for northern Utah in the summertime.

Fortunately, there's a place where you and your canine companion can beat the heat while having a great time this summer. Snowbasin stands out as one of the most dog-friendly destinations for summer adventures with plenty of exciting activities you and your pooch can enjoy together.

Here are a few ideas.

Ride the Needles Express Gondola

Experience the convenience of the Needles Express Gondola, which swiftly transports you and your dog to an elevation of 8,700 feet above sea level in just 12 minutes. Escape the summer heat and explore numerous hiking trails awaiting you at the top of the mountain. Adult tickets are $29, and best of all, your canine companion rides for free!

You can purchase your lift tickets online.

Explore miles of dog-friendly trails

Ski Magazine featured Snowbasin as one of five ski resorts that offer great hiking for dogs and their owners.

"If you're feeling adventurous, you can summit Mt. Ogden with your dog by riding the gondola and following the Needles Trail to the peak, a four-mile out and back," writer Samantha Berman suggests. "The pair of you will get to take in stunning views out over the Wasatch range. Down in Ogden, the two-acre South Ogden Dog Park is well kept, with shady spots for owners while the dogs play off-leash."

Discover 26 miles of dog-friendly hiking trails, a rare treat unique to Snowbasin since other areas prohibit dogs for watershed reasons. Other popular routes include Green Pond, perfect for water-loving pups, and the scenic Cirque Loop, a breezy 0.5-mile trail accessible from the top of the Needles Gondola.

Get ready for an unforgettable journey surrounded by stunning vistas and endless tail-wagging joy.

If you've purchased a gondola ticket, your admission is complimentary; otherwise, tickets are $10 each. Plus, your dog enters for free!

Enjoy dog-friendly dining

No need to worry about leaving your pup at home when the hunger pangs strike. At Earl's Lodge, you'll find a dog-friendly patio open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or any date Snowbasin has an event from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Go mini-golfing

Yes, at Snowbasin you can even take your dog with you when you play mini golf. Their dog-friendly mini golf course is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A few things to keep in mind when you bring dogs to the resort

Snowbasin warmly welcomes your furry companions to join in all the excitement and escape the summer heat together.
