SALT LAKE CITY — "Is there a reason you're going over 100?" the deputy asked.
Good question. The deputy had never seen a postal van do 100 mph. And the U.S. Postal Service doesn't do typical deliveries on Sunday — two things seemed out of order.
It was not a speedy delivery — it was a race.
On a Sunday afternoon in Sandusky County, Ohio, on April 21, WTVG reported a sheriff's deputy spotted what looked like a race between a Ford Mustang and a plateless USPS van. The deputy caught up to the rapid van and paced it at 105 mph in a 60-mph zone. The Mustang driver eventually slowed down. The USPS driver did not. A spokesperson for the postal service confirmed the driver was indeed a USPS employee.
In the deputy's body camera footage, the driver of the van said she didn't know the Mustang driver.
The video says the USPS driver paid a $50 fine for the infraction. WTVG clarified the $50 was the first payment of a $240 fine.
