BEIJING, Sep 21, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- China is laying plans for refurbishing the Great Wall but insists that the "original appearance" be preserved.
The State Council, with Prime Minister Wen Jiabao leading, ratified the plan in principle Wednesday. Guidelines for the project will be drawn up later.
The council designated the wall as a world cultural heritage site and the symbol of the Chinese nation, Xinhua reported.
