ST. GEORGE — Friends and family are mourning the loss of a Hurricane man who was killed in a head-on collision in Idaho Oct. 6.
According to a news release from Idaho State Police, the crash happened at approximately 6:39 a.m. last Friday on Interstate 84 near Mountain Home.
The release states that a 2020 Freightliner semitractor-trailer driven by 40-year old man from Hartford, Connecticut, was westbound when it crossed the median and went into the eastbound lanes, where there was a head-on collision with a 2015 Peterbilt semitruck in the right lane.
Both drivers died at the scene, the release indicated. The incident prompted the closure of eastbound lanes of I-84 for approximately 12 hours.
Although neither man was named by state police in the news release, the driver of the Peterbilt truck was later identified by family members and friends as Zadok Standley, 35, of Hurricane.
A GoFundMe page established on behalf of Standley's widow Dalayni Standley and their two young children describes Zadok Standley as "a loving husband and devoted father" as well as "a truly kind, caring, loving, and hard working individual."
"Zadok was the sole provider for his household," adds the post on the crowdfunding page, which had raised $9,815 as of 4 p.m. Thursday. "His death was untimely, and his family was unprepared to navigate the world without him … It is heartbreaking to watch such a young widow and his sweet children suffer the loss of their protector and sole provider."
A celebration of life for Zadok Standley is planned for Saturday at 2 p.m. at 150 Snow Peak Boulevard in Inkom, Idaho.
