THE STUDIO — You can only plan so much when it comes to live TV.
While the nature of a live news broadcast can be exciting and dynamic, there's also inherent dangers, especially for field reporters. Anything can happen. And if something does happen, you never know what you're going to get.
This video shows what happens when live TV goes right, even if the rightness isn't exactly "newsworthy."
Chicago meteorologist Greg Dutra was in the middle of a weather report when his finger accidentally grazes the animated map. And that accident leads to a truly delightful discovery for Dutra — his screen is a touchscreen. As he realizes this, his face lights up and all thoughts of the weather go out the window.
"I can do that?" he says as he moves the screen around, "No waaay!"
It's such a sweet and honest reaction, it's hard not to share in the delight. Even one of the anchors, Terrell Brown, couldn't resist, running over to the screen to try it out himself.
When Dutra finds out he can zoom, he can't believe his luck, declaring that "it's a great day!" But when he finds out he can change the angle…it's clear that he's going to be playing with his new toy for hours off the air.
It's easy to grin and maybe chuckle a little at his excitement. After all, we all know what it's like to experience a little wonder now and again.
