Finding a lawyer can be a daunting task. Who can you trust? What kind of lawyer do I need? How much will it cost? The Utah State Bar's Lawyer Referral Service, Licensedlawyer.org, is a resource designed to make the process easier. The Licensed Lawyer site will ask a few questions to help you find the kind of attorney you need, and you can select payment options and research attorneys.
What is Licensed Lawyer?
Licensed Lawyer is the official lawyer referral site of the Utah State Bar. It's intuitive and informative and lists attorneys from all legal specialties. You'll find attorneys from the state's largest firms, and offices with just a few attorneys. You can check the licensing status of your attorney and the location.
How expensive are lawyers and how are they paid?
With Licensed Lawyer, you can choose a payment method that suits you. You can pay an hourly rate, a flat fee, a sliding scale based on your income, a contingent fee, or a retainer for ongoing services. There are many different payment options.
How does Licensed Lawyer Work?
Licensed Lawyer will ask you questions to guide you to the kind of attorney you need. Need help with a divorce? Check the divorce box. Creating a business? There's a box for that. Getting ready to sign a contract? Yes, there's a place for that too.

What Kind of Lawyer Do I Need?
Like doctors, many attorneys practice in different areas of the law. If you need help with divorce, child custody, alimony, or a separation, you'll need a family law attorney. If you need a will or want to set up a trust, look for attorneys that specialize in wills and trusts. There are attorneys to help you with real estate transactions, setting up your business, or with challenges with debt and eviction. You can also search more generally, such as for attorneys that handle all civil matters (those are disputes between people or organizations) or criminal matters (Things that involve committing crimes).
Is There a Fee for Using LicensedLawyer.org?
Licensed Lawyer is a free service provided by the Utah State Bar. There is no cost to you or to your attorney.
