ST. GEORGE — Pacific Islander students from across Utah will share their culture and heritage through dance, music and traditional clothing at a showcase later this week.

The Intercollegiate Showcase of Many Islands in a Common Sea will take place at 6 p.m. on April 8 in the M.K. Cox Performing Arts Center on the Utah Tech campus. The event is free and open to the public.

"We are excited to host various Pacific Island student groups from across the state," Mike Nelson, interim director for Utah Tech's Center for Inclusion and Belonging, said in a statement. "This is a great opportunity for students to share their culture and heritage, network and create meaningful friendships."

The event has been held in northern Utah for the past few years, and Isabel Herrera Pedro, coordinator for Asian American and Pacific Islander students at Utah Tech, said she's excited to bring the event to the school.

"This is an amazing window of opportunity for not just our Utah Tech students but all our Pacific Islander clubs from the state of Utah to share their culture with us," Herrera said in a statement. "For the past couple of years, this event has been held in northern Utah, and I am so excited to finally bring this showcase down to St. George and the region of southern Utah."
