ST. GEORGE — A man entered a restaurant on Friday night in St. George, threatened to harm employees and demanded money, according to St. George police. Employees complied initially, but as the man was leaving the restaurant they took action.
A 17-year-old male employee of Durango's Mexican Grill tackled the man, and other employees helped hold the suspect down while waiting for police. A manager who had a concealed carry permit came after hearing the commotion and assisted in holding the man, police said in a news release.
St. George police said they received a call for help at 9:43 p.m., and arrived at the restaurant at 245 Red Cliffs Drive quickly to take the man into custody.
Police said the man was using a vehicle that was reported stolen from Las Vegas, and that he had recently been released from custody in Nevada where he was charged with robbery and kidnapping.
The statement said there is not a threat to the community.
"We would like to thank those involved for their efforts in bringing this suspect into custody without any injuries to those involved," police said.
