LAYTON — A man seriously injured after being hit by a car while biking in Layton on Saturday has died, police said.

The cyclist was 38-year-old James Christopher Pinko, of Layton.

The accident occurred under the overpass of Hill Field Road and Interstate 15 around 11:45 a.m., Layton Sgt. Brett Felion said.

Pinko was taken to the Layton Hills Mall parking lot by ambulance before he was then flown by medical helicopter to the hospital. While the extent of his injuries was not known at the time, Felion said the injuries were "serious enough to be Life Flighted."

Pinko later died from injuries sustained in the accident, Felion confirmed Sunday.
