FIRST CLASS DINING HALL — The Academy Award nominations were recently announced and as a surprise to no one, there were some serious snubs. It happens every year and the Academy loses a little more respect from me each time.
There are the famous ones like Alfred Hitchcock never winning best director; "Singin' in the Rain" not getting one Oscar win; or "Saving Private Ryan" losing best picture to "Shakespeare in Love." But at least those films and directors got nominations. It's even worse when those who deserve it don't even get a nomination.
Andrew Garfield not getting a nomination for "The Social Network" is criminal; "The Lego Movie" not getting a nomination for best animated feature was a huge mistake; and Christopher Nolan not being nominated for best director for "Inception" pretty much made me give up on the whole nonsense of the Oscars.
But all of these snubs pale in comparison to the Academy ignoring OwlKitty's performance in "Titanic with a Cat."
Her performance is nuanced, poignant and beautiful. You feel a range of emotions that you didn't even know possible. From her look of awe and amazement at seeing Jack for the first time, to her vulnerability when she let him draw her — it's all physical poetry.
Few things have moved me as much as OwlKitty's performance. I didn't cry when I got married or when any of my children were born, but I wept like a small child watching OwlKitty choose between love and what society expected.
Enjoy "Titanic with a Cat" with me, share in my joy and join my boycott of the Oscars. These snubs have to stop and ignoring OwlKitty is where I draw the line.
