SALT LAKE CITY — Even on a bye week Utah State found a way to win ... or at least two of its fans did.
The Aggies may have had an off week, but that didn't stop Utah State fan Kurt Spence from claiming the top prize with 186 points in this week's KSL.com College Football Pick'em results. He was joined by Aggies fan Chris Cook, who finished in third place this week with 182 points. Sandwiched between the Aggies in second place was Utah fan Mike Anderson with 184 points.
The week was anything but predictable as BYU suffered its first loss of the season and Utah overcame a 100-year-plus losing streak on the road to USC to claim the program's first-ever win at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. And those were just the local games.
Texas took a commanding lead over Oklahoma in the Red River rivalry game before Oklahoma's backup quarterback led the Sooners on a 35-point second-half comeback performance to steal the rivalry win away from the Longhorns in the last seconds of the game. It's a result that 75% of pickers got correct, but there was certainly a lot of sweating until the Sooners' final score.
And for the first time this season, Utah fans led with an average earned score of 16.6 points, followed by Utah State's 15.0 and BYU's 13.2 points in the upset loss to Boise State. But BYU fans still maintain the lead on the season with an average score earned of 21.5, followed by Utah State's 19.3 and Utah's 18.9.
Each week's first-, second- and third-place winners will get a $100, $70 and $30 Visa gift card, respectively, courtesy of Goldenwest Credit Union. The overall winners of Pick'em will receive a $500 gift card for first place, a $250 gift card for second place and a $100 gift card for third place.
