Making up more than three-quarters of all vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2020 according to Motor Intelligence, it's clear that Americans love their trucks and SUVs. Some manufacturers are even going so far as dropping sedan and compact car models in their lineup to meet SUV demand.

SUVs offer a lot of benefits to buyers. Cargo space is plentiful, sitting up higher makes for excellent visibility, and having the versatility of a vehicle that can do anything and go anywhere you want brings peace of mind—not to mention SUVs are more efficient than ever.

With so many SUVs on the market, it can be hard to decide which one is right for you, and that's why Volkswagen's SUV lineup is such a standout among SUV manufacturers. VW offers an SUV for every need and lifestyle.

All Volkswagen models offer all the storage, space, and fuel economy to make getting your family out camping is fun, cost-effective, and done in comfort. If you're in the market for a new or used SUV (full-size or subcompact), Volkswagen has what you need.

Here are the five VW SUVs for car shoppers looking to get the most for their money.

2021 Volkswagen ID.4

If you're looking for an affordable yet feature- and technology-rich electric SUV, the new Volkswagen ID.4 is your answer.

This 2021 World Car of the Year Award winner, the ID.4 offers up to 201 hp and 228 lb-ft of torque—better than other competitors in its class. That power doesn't come with a sacrifice in range, either, as the ID.4 goes 260 miles on a single charge.

While the ID.4 starts at an affordable $39,995, it packs some of the most technologically advanced features found in a car. Features like wireless smartphone integration, wireless cell phone charging, Emergency Assist, Travel Assist, and Remote Access Services are all standard. The VW ID.4 also has some of the best screen real estate in the industry with its 10-inch center screen.

As far as warranty goes, the VW ID.4 has one of the best in the business with bumper-to-bumper coverage for four years or 50,000-miles, whichever comes first.

Like many other electric vehicles, the ID.4 operates on a pre-order basis. You can reserve and build your own ID.4 right from Volkswagen SouthTowne's website. It only takes a few minutes and costs $100 to begin the reservation process. For more information on the Volkswagen ID.4, visit the Volkswagen SouthTowne site here.

2021 VW Atlas

If you're looking for a large, spacious, and comfortable SUV to haul around the family and all your gear, the Volkswagen Atlas is your answer.

Popular, award-winning, and boldly designed, the VW Atlas checks all the boxes for what customers want in a large SUV. With comfortable seating for up to seven passengers (six if you choose captain's chairs), robust safety features, and a 5,000-pound towing capacity, the Atlas is the perfect family car for road trips, weekend excursions to the lake, and day-to-day carpool duties.

The Atlas is also an excellent financial decision if you're worried about maintenance costs. According to a recent study by Vincentric, Altas owners will pay much less in ownership costs than other midsize SUVs.

As with other Volkswagen models, the Atlas carries best-in-the-business coverage for four years or 50,000-miles, whichever comes first, two years of Carefree Maintenance, and five years of Car-Net remote access.

2021 VW Atlas Cross Sport

The more stylish brother to the Atlas, the all-new Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is very similar to the Atlas but with a more sloping, sporty roofline, and room for 5 passengers, rather than seven.

Like its brother, it's also very safe. Both 2020 and 2021 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models took home awards for having the highest overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The comprehensive airbag placement with other safety features such as electronic stability control and the intelligent crash response system make this a top choice for parents who want to keep their families safe.

The VW Atlas Cross Sport features a 2.0L turbo engine (also available with a 3.6 liter V6) with an estimated 21 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway.

As with other Volkswagen models, the Atlas Cross Sport carries best-in-the-business coverage for four years or 50,000-miles, whichever comes first, two years of Carefree Maintenance, and five years of Car-Net remote access.

2021 VW Tiguan

If you're looking for an all-around excellent, compact SUV, you can't go wrong with the Volkswagen Tiguan.

This multi-award-winning SUV is the best-selling car in the Volkswagen brand and Group, is the most successful SUV on the market in Europe, and is among the three most popular sport-utility vehicles worldwide.

The VW Tiguan also won the editors' choice award from Car and Driver and was voted a top safety pick in 2021 by the IIHS. There's a lot to brag about when it comes to the Tiguan, and families love that it can comfortably seat up to seven people.

The power and fuel economy from its 2.0L turbo engine isn't too shabby, either. With an estimated 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, the Tiguan is among the most efficient SUVs on the market.

Like the Atlas, drivers of the new 2021 VW Tiguan will get the industry-leading four-year limited warranty with three years of roadside assistance and two years of carefree maintenance.

2022 VW Taos

If you're a fan of the VW Tiguan but want something more compact, the VW Taos is the perfect SUV for you.

Essentially a subcompact version of the Tiguan, the Taos still offers similar power and storage to its bigger brother. Whereas the Tiguan has an optional third row, the Taos is a five-seater with 65.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down.

The turbocharged engine features up to 158 horsepower, so although it's not quite as powerful as the Tiguan, it still has enough get up and go for accelerating on the highway. Where the VW Taos excels is with gas mileage—delivering 28 mpg city and 36 mpg on the highway—some of the best SUV fuel economy numbers on the market.
