Remember when toilet paper was nowhere to be found? No, that wasn't a bad episode of The Twilight Zone, but it did play out like one. For months.

Americans are proficient at stockpiling. At the slightest sign of trouble, every roll of toilet paper, Clorox wipe, bottled water, sirloin steak, and Diet Coke they can get their hands on is gone.

In the event of a disaster or emergency, toilet paper isn't the only thing you'll wish you had on hand. Personal protection—like guns and ammo—are high-priority as well.

Case in point: Americans bought more guns in 2020 than in any other year, according to a report by The National Shooting Sports Foundation, as reported on by CBS.

Fueled by the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic, political unrest, and protests, firearms flew off—and are still flying off shelves—with people lining up for hours to get their hands on one. By August of last year, gun sales had exceeded 2019's total, and by September sales exceeded the highest sales year ever, 2016, according to Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting.

In total, more than 17 million guns were purchased in 2020, most of them handguns used for personal protection.

Whether you're a novice gun-owner or a seasoned pro, you'll want to utilize these two resources.

The importance and usefulness of a good mount

Imagine going through the trouble of acquiring a gun, getting a concealed carry permit, and buying the required storage and maintenance equipment, only to not have the gun readily available when you need it most. At best, it's a minor inconvenience. At worst, it could cost you or your loved one's life.

Locally based Wasatch Defense has spent years developing some of the best handgun mounts in the world and has two popular gun mount options that are selling out fast.

The newest and most popular mount is their Wasatch Quickdraw mount. This screw-mounted, highly magnetized mount is meant for those who wish to keep their handgun as ready-to-go as possible.

It's perfect for mounting in a vehicle, home, or under your work desk. The Quickdraw mount doesn't just hold your gun, it also loads a bullet into the chamber when pushed forward. Compatible with most flat-top handgun models, like those available from Glock, Heckler & Koch, Smith & Wesson, Sig Sauer, and Ruger, the Quickdraw is best for those wanting just wait the name suggests: a quick draw. Find a demonstration video here.

Oh, and don't worry about the mount scratching your gun. Wasatch Defense specifically designed the plastic casing for the Quickdraw to prevent scratching your firearm or sight.

They also offer a flat-style mount, the Wasatch Quick Mount. This rubberized, non-scratch mount is made with very strong magnets that can hold guns, ammo clips, pocket knives, or whatever other magnetized items you can stick to it. This fan-favorite has been impressing gun owners for its magnetized strength and versatility, as these reviews describe.

Training keeps you ready and safe

Once you have a proper mount for your gun, the most important thing you can do is to routinely train. Not only will refresher courses teach you how to properly handle and care for a firearm, but they will also teach you how to stay vigilant and mindful, even in stressful circumstances.

"Firearm education and safety is paramount...that's why we offer a variety of programs and services to promote the safe handling, use, and storage of firearms," said the National Rifle Association. "Whether you're a parent in search of information about firearm safety in the home, a first-time gun owner, or an old pro looking to brush up on your firearm handling skills, the NRA is here to keep you and your family safe."

Wasatch Defense seeks to always uphold American's Second Amendment rights. "In these troubled times with corrupt politicians, division in the country, & increased crime, we stand even firmer for our rights," they said. "We sell products to help keep your first line of protection concealed and quickly accessible."

Whether you need to tidy up your safe, place your protection under your desk, at your home entry points, or in your vehicle, Wasatch Defense has you covered. Check them and their mounts out today!
