Game of the Week: Pleasant Grove @ Corner Canyon

Kjar's 3 TDs help Corner Canyon shrug off slow start, pull away from Pleasant Grove in Region 4 opener

Jaxson Dart threw for four touchdowns, including three to Noah Kjar that bridged the second and third quarter, and ran for another score to help the Chargers pull away for a 38-7 win over Pleasant Grove to open Region 4 play in the KSL.com Game of the Week for Week 6 of the high school football season.

Why did we choose Pleasant Grove at Corner Canyon?

This is easily one of the biggest games of the season as top-tier Pleasant Grove and Corner Canyon begin what is expected to be a brutal run of Region 4 play. Pleasant Grove enters the Friday night matchup as the No. 1 team in the Utah High School Activities Association's first RPI rankings of the season for Class 6A. But Corner Canyon ranks No. 1 in the state in most human polls, including the KSL.com Top 20+1 rankings after a 5-0 start of its own. The Vikings rank No. 5 in the KSL.com poll, and the Chargers rank No. 4 in the UHSAA RPI.

Friday night's matchup could become critical for postseason seeding, though the same will likely be said of almost every other game in Region 4, which features the top teams in 6A.

The Chargers have outscored their opponents by an average of 38.8 points and already own wins over No. 12 Bingham and No. 20 Herriman, while the Vikings outscore opponents by an average of 21.4 points and have wins over No. 13 Maple Mountain and No. 18 Lehi. Both teams feature several Division I prospects, including offensive lineman Jackson Light, an early Oregon commit, and tight end Isaac Vaha, who most expect will commit to Utah. The two rank No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, in Utah's top football recruits, according to 247 Sports.
