PLEASANT GROVE — If the playoffs started today, Pleasant Grove would be the team to beat in the Class 6A state football playoffs.

At least, it would be according to the initial set of RPI rankings released Monday by the Utah High School Activities Association.

The Vikings topped the list of 27 teams in Class 6A, based on a combination of win-loss record, opponents' winning percentage and the winning percentage of each opponents' opponent.

Region 4 claimed five of the top six spots, with American Fork, Skyridge, Corner Canyon and Lone Peak following the Vikings. Kearns was rated No. 5 to break up the bloc.

Pleasant Grove had a rating of 0.8105, just .0331 percentage points ahead of the second-best Cavemen (0.7774). The top seven teams in 6A had identical 5-0 records, including No. 7 Roy. Bingham rates No. 8 with a 2-2 record, but a .6200 rating due to losses to No. 3 Skyridge and No. 4 Corner Canyon.

Salem Hills (4-0) sits atop Class 5A, but is just .09 points ahead of second-rated Skyline. Brighton, Wasatch and defending champion Orem round out the top five.

Reigning champion Sky View (5-0) leads 4A, coming in at .08 points ahead of Region 11 rival and fellow unbeaten Ridgeline (4-0). Snow Canyon, Pine View and Stansbury are also in 4A's top five.

Summit Academy (5-0) has a narrow edge on North Sanpete (5-0) in 3A. The two unbeatens are followed by a trio of one-loss teams in Juab, Grantsville and Richfield.

Duchesne (5-0) holds a slim lead on defending champion and fellow unbeaten Beaver in 2A. Kanab (5-0), Milford (2-3) and Millard (4-1) round out the small-school top five.
