SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah High School Activities Association released its initial RPI update after five weeks of high school football in Utah, making any media or coaches' poll a fruitless exercise made for vanity or feel-good measures alone.
But we're going to keep publishing it.
As always, here's a look at what we believe a Top 20 ranking in Utah high school football would look like if all the classifications were merged into one. And even if the order of the top-seven teams in Class 6A differs from the UHSAA's official rating (for now), the names are the same.
So here's another attempt to renumber them.
Plus-1
Wasatch 26, Spanish Fork 17
After jumping out to a 16-0 lead after the first quarter, the Wasps had to rally from a 1-point deficit with 10 unanswered points in the final period.
Adarius Edwards' second touchdown of the game helped Wasatch (4-1) pull away for good to establish themselves as a sneaky good team in 5A and a darkhorse contender to Salem Hills and Maple Mountain in Region 8.
Wasatch, which has only lost one game, 36-10 at 6A Pleasant Grove, and ranks fourth in the UHSAA's 5A RPI, will host the Golden Eagles on Friday, and will travel to Salem Hills on Oct. 8.
