SALT LAKE CITY — Two weeks into the 2020 Utah high school football season, and 12 teams in the state's top classification are undefeated at 2-0.

Half of them are in Region 4.

Corner Canyon, American Fork, Skyridge, Lone Peak, Pleasant Grove and Westlake are a combined 12-0 in the first two weeks of the season. As such, all six Region 4 teams are ranked in this week's Top 20 — including five of the top six.

There are other teams to beat — but Class 5A and 4A are beginning to have their own teams to beat, as well.

See the complete list below, as well as one other team that caught out attention this week with an impressive performance.

1. Corner Canyon (2-0)

Jaxson Dart accounted for six touchdowns, including three to Talmadge Handley, and the Chargers kept rolling with a 56-0 shutout of Herriman.

2. American Fork (2-0)

Corner Canyon’s biggest challenger, so far, may be the Region 4 rival Cavemen, who pulled away 31-21 on Thursday night behind another standout performance by Maddux Madsen.

3. Skyridge (2-0)

Another Region 4 title contender? The Falcons are undefeated after throttling Bingham 35-7. So, perhaps.

4. Lone Peak (2-0)

Lone Peak may have the best defense in the state, outsourcing its first two opponents 76-3.

5. Orem (2-0)

The only thing more impressive than the Tigers’ defense in a 24-0 shutout of East was Micah Fe’a, who threw for three touchdowns in the win.

6. Pleasant Grove (2-0)

The Vikings cruised to a 19-7 halftime lead over Maple Mountain but couldn’t keep BYU commit Kyson Hall and Tyler Nelson down for long. Are five of the six-best teams in the state from the six-team Region 4? Westlake isn’t a slouch, either, pushing the league’s record to 12-0 through two weeks.

7. Davis (2-0)

Chance Trujillo has the Darts looking like a Region 1 contender after a 48-6 rout of rival Viewmont. No dogs on the field this time.

8. Bingham (0-1)

The Miners struggled in a season-opening loss at Skyridge, but was it first-game rust or a trend? Answers could come with a big-time matchup with Corner Canyon on Friday.

9. Sky View (2-0)

Bobcats are still the team to beat in 4A after Walter Collins’ three touchdowns in a 42-21 win over Bonneville.

10. East (1-1)

Leopards will need to find answers before back-to-back road games at Lone Peak and American Fork.

11. Brighton (2-0)

Cole Lavin had the Bengals much more in control in a 38-7 win over Layton, and could cruise again with Woods Cross on deck.

12. Kearns (2-0)

Naki Leha, Iosefa Toai’ivao paced Cougars in 42-14 win over Mountain Ridge. Does Region 2 title go through K-Town?

13. Salem Hills (2-0)

Skyhawks scarcely threatened in a 27-10 win over Fremont to become one of two teams from Region 8 still unbeaten.

14. Maple Mountain (1-1)

Golden Eagles showed heart late, but couldn’t complete the rally at Pleasant Grove. Bounceback game against Tmpanogos awaits.

15. Snow Canyon (1-0)

Warriors had an off week after a road win over Cyprus. Another road game at Morgan won’t be easy this week.

16. Farmington (1-1)

Phoenix had four different scorers in a 28-7 win over Syracuse to get back on track.

17. Timpview (0-2)

Thunderbirds have talent but have faced a brutal opening two weeks. City rivalry at Provo, which has gone Timpview’s way for three decades, offers a chance to bounce back.

18. Skyline (2-0)

Braxton Bolingbroke scored six touchdowns in the Eagles’ 49-14 win at Springville. Are Eagles a Region 6 contender?

19. Lehi (1-1)

Pioneers found offense, defense with shutout of Crimson Cliffs, 36-0.

20. Westlake (2-0)

The other Region 4 team is 2-0 after a 30-13 win over Provo, and has Hunter and Herriman before jumping into a tough round of league play.

Plus-1:

West 27, Woods Cross 13

The Panthers are 2-0 after never letting the Wildcats lead following a 7-6 halftime edge. Talitui Pututau’s 42-yard pick-six sealed the win for West, which will face a much stiffer challenger Friday at American Fork — a make-up game after both had out-of-state opponents cancel games due to the pandemic.
