Cedar Fort Fire grows to 209 acres

The Cedar Fort Fire had grown to an estimated 209 acres by Wednesday night and was 50% contained, fire officials said.Forward progression on the fire was stopped by 9:50 p.m. and investigators determined the blaze was human-caused. The exact cause is still under investigation.

South Jordan fire burns 10-15 acres

A fire in South Jordan on Wednesday evening burned about 10-15 acres near Mountain View Corridor at 11000 South, South Jordan fire officials said.By 6 p.m. the fire was under control and its cause was under investigation.Dry conditions and wind spread the fire quickly, South Jordan Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Stone said.No structures were damaged in the fire.

Fire restrictions to start Thursday in Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest

Fire restrictions will begin Thursday at midnight in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest to reduce the risk for human-caused fires, forest service officials said.Fires, campfires, charcoal, coal and wood stoves are only allowed in developed campgrounds while the restrictions are in place. Additionally, smoking is prohibited unless inside enclosed vehicles, buildings, developed campgrounds or in areas that have been cleared of any flammable material.

Cedar Fort Fire in Utah County grows to 35 acres

The Cedar Fort Fire in Utah County had grown to 35 acres by 5:15 p.m., fire officials reported. The blaze has mainly been driven by gusty and shifting winds.A bulldozer, a helicopter and two single-engine air tankers were on scene fighting the fire, which was first reported about 4 p.m.

Fire restrictions implemented in Summit, Wasatch counties

A fire restriction order in all unincorporated private and all state lands in Wasatch and Summit counties will go into effect Thursday, officials said.The order comes amid extremely dry vegetation in northern Utah paired with forecasted weather conditions that will make fires likely in the areas.Parts of Utah were under a red flag warning on Wednesday, meaning conditions were ideal for fast-spreading fires. For more information on the warning, visit the National Weather Service Salt Lake City's website.The order bans the use of open fires of any kind in areas not designed for them. Fires in proper facilities, like an improved campground, picnic area or home with running water, is permitted.Smoking or cutting, welding or grinding metal in an area with dry vegetation is banned.Using a motorcycle, ATV or anything with a small internal combustion engine without an approved spark arrestor is banned as well.Violating the order can be punished with up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Cedar Fort Fire in Utah County closes S.R. 73

Officials temporarily closed state Route 73 on Wednesday just before 4:30 p.m. due to the estimated 5-acre Cedar Fort Fire.The closure was near Cedar Fort in Utah County and was issued to help crews safely work in the area, fire officials reported. The road was expected to be cleared by 5:35 p.m., the Utah Department of Transportation reported.

5-acre wildfire burning near Cedar Fort in Utah County threatens structures

An estimated 5-acre and growing wildfire threatened some structures near Cedar Fort in Utah County on Wednesday afternoon, local and state officials reported through Utah Fire Info.Local resources were on scene as of 4:10 p.m. and a dozer and two single engine air tankers have been ordered to fight the fire.The cause of the blaze, named the Cedar Fort Fire, was under investigation.
