SALT LAKE CITY — Another person has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and torture of a man found running naked down the I-15 freeway.

Cano Fawson, 23, was arrested Wednesday for investigation of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault in connection with the April 16 incident.

On that day, Utah Highway Patrol troopers spotted a man on I-15 who was “naked and showed physical signs of torture,” according to a police affidavit. He had “bruises, burns, a shaved head, and duct tape on parts of his body.”

The man said he had been held captive, duct taped and tortured at the Allstar Motel, 754 W. North Temple, by others who believed he was a “snitch,” the affidavit states.

The next day, Patrick Shipley, 37, was arrested. He was later charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies. A preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin Aug. 14.

According to the new affidavit, Shipley wrote letters to Fawson, using his moniker, and police acquired “recorded jail calls between Shipley and (Fawson) where they discuss the case” before Shipley scolded him for talking about the case on the jail phone, according to the affidavit.
