Michelle Wie struggled to a nine-over par 81 here Friday to miss the cut at the 84 Lumber Classic, the US teen prodigy failing for the sixth time in as many tries at a US PGA event.
Wie struggled to a five-over par 77 in the first round, failing to make a birdie, and was outmatched again in the second round at Mystic Rock.
After birdies on the second and third holes, Wie took a double bogey at the fourth and followed with back-to-back bogeys to seal her fate as far as making the cut was concerned.
She began the back nine with back-to-back bogeys and added another at the 14th before marking her lone birdie of the event at the par-5 16th, only to give back the stroke with a bogey at the 18th.
The 16-year-old Hawaiian made the cut at an event against men in South Korea but that was her only success in 11 events against men and she has yet to claim a victory in women's pro events despite her long-driving ability.
Wie now has five missed cuts and a withdrawn in her US PGA appearances.
Wie missed the cut last week at the European Masters, blaming her troubles in part upon schoolwork.
