OSLO, Norway, Sep 12, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway Tuesday released the first photos of the recently recovered damaged paintings, "Madonna" and "The Scream."

The museum also released a statement saying both of the paintings by Edvard Munch would be put on public display before any repairs are made, Aftenposten reported.

"The Scream" suffered the least damage with only the corners curling in while Munch's "Madonna" has several tears on the right side and two holes in Madonna's arm, the newspaper said.

The paintings stolen about two years ago and recovered Aug. 31 will exhibited "for a short period" later this fall on secured display table, the museum said.

Officials said they were confident both paintings could be restored to the condition they were in before the armed robbery in August 2004.
