SEARCH UNDER WAY FOR “GLEE” STAR NAYA RIVERA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities are searching a lake in Southern California for a star of the TV series “Glee.” The Ventura County Sheriff's Department says Naya Rivera went into the waters of Lake Piru during an outing with her 4-year-old son yesterday. The child was found on the boat — alone — and authorities say he told them his mom went into the water and didn't come out. Rivera's ID and life jacket were found on the the boat. And a sheriff's captain says, “this may well be a case of drowning.” The search was suspended last night and resumed at daybreak, with helicopters and drones deployed to search the lake and its 12-mile shoreline.

JOHNNY DEPP CONTINUES CROSS-EXAMINATION IN LIBEL CASE

LONDON (AP) — For a third straight day on the witness stand, Johnny Depp is denying he was a wife-beater. The actor continues being grilled as he testifies in a trial in which he accuses The Sun tabloid of libeling him by running a story in 2018 that said he physically abused his ex, Amber Heard. While denying multiple claims of assault against Heard, Depp acknowledged he and Heard had a volatile relationship — and that he was in a “constant tailspin” as he tried to kick drugs and booze. During today's testimony, Depp denied Heard's claim that he put her through a “three-day ordeal of assaults” in 2015 in Australia — where Depp was filming the fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie. During that stay, their rented home was trashed and Depp's fingertip was cut to the bone. He says his ex-wife's claims about what happened there are “pedestrian fiction.”

CHARLIE DANIELS MEMORIAL

MOUNT JULIET, Tenn. (AP) — Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie Daniels got military honors at a memorial service last night. The ceremony in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, began with a flyover of Army Blackhawk helicopters — and the presentation of American flags to Daniels’ wife Hazel and son Charlie Jr. Daniels, who wrote the hit song “Devil Went Down to Georgia,” died at the age of 83 on Monday. Doctors say he suffered a stroke.

LADY A SUES LADY A

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Lady A vs. Lady A? It has come to that for the country music group and the singer who has performed under that name for years. The group Lady A is suing the soul singer Lady A, ending the veneer of cooperation between the two parties. This started when the group announced it was dropping the word “Antebellum” from its name because of its ties to slavery — and would go as Lady A, a nickname many of its fans had already been using. Soon afterward, Anita White came forward to say she had been using the name for years. The two parties promised to iron things out — and it appeared they were close to doing so. But now the country group says talks over the name have fallen apart — and they are now suing White. The group's suit seeks the right to keep using Lady A — without infringing on White's rights to the same name.

ROLLING STONES RELEASING NEW VERSION OF 1973 ALBUM

UNDATED (AP) — The Rolling Stones are getting ready to release a new version of an old album. The group will drop a re-release of the 1973 album “Goats Head Soup.” The new package will include a four-disc DC or a vinyl box edition — both of which will include 10 bonus tracks, including outtakes and alternative versions of songs on the original. Also included will be three unheard tracks, including one featuring Led Zeppelin star Jimmy Page. “Goats Head Soup” features one of the Stones best-known ballads, “Angie.”

BOB MARLEY'S KIDS RE-DO “ONE LOVE”

NEW YORK (AP) — One good “One Love” deserves another — and that's what Bob Marley descendants are doing. Marley's children and grandson have re-recorded their kin's hit “One Love” as a way to help kids affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Stephen Marley, Cedella Marley and her son, Skip Marley worked together on the remix, which is due out July 17. Other artists make guest appearances on the track — and there will be a music video. Bob Marley & The Wailers released “One Love” in 1977. Proceeds from the new version will go to support a UNICEF campaign for coronavirus relief efforts aimed at helping children around the world.

KANYE WEST CONFIRMS PRESIDENTIAL BID

NEW YORK (AP) — Wakanda for president? It's unclear whether that will make it onto a bumper sticker or yard sign — but that's the vision of America that Kanye West says he'd like to bring, if he wins the presidential election. In an interview with Forbes magazine the rapper and entrepreneur says he wants to model a West White House on the fictional land featured in the movie “Black Panther.” During the interview, West also said he was no longer supporting President Donald Trump, though they used to be tight. West suggests he was turned off Trump after hearing reports that Trump took refuge in an underground bunker as anti-racism protesters gathered near the White House last month.

SHEPARD SMITH LANDS NEWSCAST ON CNBC

NEW YORK (AP) — Shepard Smith says he's happy that his newscast has found a new home. The former Fox News anchor has joined CNBC, where he will begin doing an hour-long nightly newscast in the fall. Smith left Fox News last October — abruptly announcing his leave-taking on the air on what became his final Fox broadcast. During the latter part of his time on Fox, Smith would call out President Donald Trump and members of his administration for its policies and misstatements, which drew the ire of Trump and his followers.
