EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A 6-year-old boy was flown via medical helicopter in critical condition on Monday night after being shot in the head with a BB gun, authorities said.

It appeared the boy was accidentally struck in the back of the head by a ricocheted BB, Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.

The boy’s 12-year-old brother fired the pump-style BB gun, he added.

The incident occurred about 7:45 p.m. in the North Ranch area.

Further information about the young boy’s injuries wasn’t immediately available.
