SCIPIO, Millard County — A high-speed chase in Millard County on Thursday ended with one individual being taken to a hospital in serious condition, officials said.

After the chase, authorities discovered the person had suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound, but they don’t yet know when or how the person was shot.

Late Thursday morning, a Millard County sheriff’s deputy responded to a call about a suspicious truck in a Scipio neighborhood.

When the deputy approached the truck, it drove away and ended up reaching speeds higher than 100 mph on I-15.

The driver later drove the truck off the interstate, onto the shoulder and into some trees, and stopped.

The deputy again approached the vehicle and found the driver was injured with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers assisted the deputy with the driver’s injuries, after which the driver was transported to a hospital.

The Utah State Bureau of Investigations is looking into the incident.
