LAKE POWELL — A 26-year-old man died Thursday after falling off a cliff overlooking Lake Powell, Kane County sheriff’s officials said on Friday.
Ian Brisbin and a friend, both from Page, Arizona, had camped at Altstrom Point on Wednesday night, officials said in a news release. The friend went to bed after midnight, but Brisbin stayed out longer.
On Thursday morning, Brisbin hadn’t returned to the campsite and his friend began looking for him, the release says. The friend looked over the cliff and saw Ian’s body about 70 feet below and called authorities just before 9:30 a.m.
When authorities arrived, they declared Brisbin dead and a search and rescue team recovered his body.
The incident is under investigation, officials say, and Brisbin’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office.
Authorities said the fall appears to be an accident at this time.
