NEW DELHI (AP) — Fire officials said a blaze at a warehouse in India's capital has killed 9 people and left at least 3 injured. The fire broke out in the early hours of Monday at Kirari area of New Delhi and its cause was yet unknown. The injured were admitted to the nearby Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. The blaze was the second major fire in New Delhi this month. On Dec. 8, a fire believed to be caused by an electrical short circuit engulfed a building in the city's Karol Bagh, killing at least 43 people.
BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian state media says the country's air defenses are responding to a missiles attack from inside Israel. Syrian state TV has given no further details about the Sunday night attack but residents of Damascus say explosions could be heard. There has been no immediate comment from Israel. A Syrian opposition group says the missile attack targeted Iranian and Syrian military positions near Damascus. There were no immediate reports on casualties. Israel has repeatedly struck Iran-linked targets in Syria in recent years and has warned against any permanent Iranian presence on the frontier.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities have started their investigation into one of the worst fires in Las Vegas’ history after six people were killed, 13 injured and nearly 50 others displaced from a three-story apartment building in the downtown area. Some residents of the Alpine Motel Apartments told investigators there was no heat in the building and they were using their stoves to stay warm before the pre-dawn blaze broke out Saturday. Responding firefighters reporting finding the burners turned on and hearing smoke alarms going off, but not fire alarms. The State Fire Marshal's Office will investigate for code violations including any involving fire alarms. Nevada law requires landlords to provide heat.
BALTIMORE (AP) — Police say two shooters opened fire on a crowd outside a hookah lounge in Baltimore, wounding seven people. The Baltimore Sun reports the crowd was gathered around 1:45 a.m. Sunday when the unidentified suspects, one armed with a rifle and the other with a handgun, began shooting. Officers found four victims and another three checked themselves into hospitals. At least three of the victims are teenagers. Police say they don't have a motive for the attack and are searching for the suspects. Baltimore is experiencing one of its most violent years on record, with more than 330 homicides so far in 2019, in addition to other violent crimes.
UNDATED (AP) — The company that owns QVC has announced the home-shopping network's founder, Joseph Segel, died. The Philadelphia Inquirier reports that Segel died Saturday in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, due to congestive heart failure. Remembered as a “quintessential entrepreneur,” Segel was lauded for his contributions to innovating how people shop. QVC, short for “Quality Value Convenience," launched in 1986. Qurate Retail Group, which owns the channel, says QVC now reaches 380 million homes throughout the world.
