SALT LAKE CITY — The power at the intersection of 900 South and 900 West was out Tuesday night after a man hit a utility pole in the area and suffered serious injuries, police said.

The man was unconscious when police arrived and he was transported to a hospital where doctors said he was in stable condition, Salt Lake City Police Acting Lt. Alma Sweeny said.

The driver was allegedly fleeing a traffic incident when he crashed into the pole, Sweeny said.

The intersection was shut down for several hours after the crash as police investigated. No one else was injured in the wreck.

It was still closed as of 10:25 p.m. and Sweeny estimated it would be a few hours before it reopened.
