WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Officials in southern Poland say rescuers have found the bodies of four victims and are looking for four missing people after a gas explosion destroyed a house.

Silesia provincial Gov. Jaroslaw Wieczorek says the bodies of four people, including a child, have been found early Thursday in the debris of a house that collapsed in the explosion in the southern mountain resort of Szczyrk.

He says rescuers continue to comb by hand through the debris in search of those missing. The temperature is sub-freezing and there is some snow.

Earlier firefighters said that nine members of two families lived in the three-story house. One person was not at home at the time of the explosion Wednesday evening.

A suspected cause is a leak from a local gas pipeline during works.
