Police: Utah woman stole $145K from youth justice center
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah authorities say the treasurer of a youth justice center has stolen more than $145,000 from the organization.
Authorities say 41-year-old Michelle Lyn Coon was booked into the Uintah County jail Wednesday on suspicion of a second-degree felony count of theft over $5,000.
Authorities say a member of Friends of Uintah & Daggett County Children's Justice Center contacted police after noticing multiple unauthorized charges and withdrawals on bank account statements dating back to 2012.
Authorities say money spent on Coon's company-issued credit card included phone-related charges and at fast food restaurants and clothing stores.
Detectives say Coon told police she was addicted.
Online court records don't list a defense attorney for Coon who could comment on the allegations.
Coon was released after posting $10,000 bail.
HALLOWEEN SHOOTING-UTAH
2 men killed at Utah Halloween party, authorities say
ROOSEVELT, Utah (AP) — Authorities say two men have been killed at a Halloween party in a central Utah town and officials are calling the killings a double homicide.
The Duchesne (do-SHANE') County Sheriff's Office said deputies called to a home near the town of Roosevelt early Friday found the two men dead and learned that some people who had been at the home left before deputies arrived.
The victim's identities were not made public and the Sheriff's Office didn't immediately say how they died or provide information on a possible motive.
A Sheriff's Office statement said investigators didn't believe there was an ongoing threat to the public.
The statement says investigators are seeking information from people who were at the party.
Roosevelt is 105 miles (169 kilometers) east of Salt Lake City.

Utah among the last in US to lay weak beer to rest
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The first change to beer alcohol limits since the end of Prohibition is coming to Utah.
The state will become the next-to-last in the country to say goodbye to lower-alcohol 3.2% beer on Friday, when drinkers will welcome new, slightly stronger brews to grocery stores, gas stations and bar taps.
The iconic Budweiser Clydesdale horses marked the occasion in Salt Lake City at a mock funeral for the alcohol limits that were common in most of the U.S. in the 1930s.
Utah kept the restrictions for beer sold outside state-owned liquor stores longer than most states, but lawmakers allowed the increase to a still-low 4% by weight as the market shrunk and large breweries stopped making many weaker beers.
Minnesota is the last state to have 3.2% beer.
FALLEN MARINE BURIAL
Fallen Utah Marine killed in WWII identified after 75 years
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A U.S. defense agency has identified and recovered the body of a Utah Marine about 76 years after he was killed in battle during World War II.
The U.S. Department of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced Wednesday that 21-year-old Pfc. Robert Hatch of Woods Cross was killed in November 1943 after three days of fighting on a small island in the Pacific.
Authorities say Hatch was one of about 1,000 soldiers killed in the battle.
The military says his body was declared non-recoverable in 1949 after multiple search attempts.
Authorities used dental, anthropological, and chest radiograph comparison to identify him. His burial is set for Dec. 14 in Bountiful.
Authorities say more than 400,000 U.S. soldiers died in World War II, and about 73,000 of them are still unaccounted for.

Latest: Police: No public threat after Halloween shooting
ORINDA, Calif. (AP) — A San Francisco Bay Area police chief says there's no ongoing threat to the public after four people were fatally shot and others wounded at a crowded Halloween party held at an Airbnb rental.
Orinda police Chief David Cook had very few details Friday afternoon, saying investigators are trying to contact more than 100 party-goers who fled after shots rang out about a quarter to 11 p.m. Thursday.
He said there was no risk to the community east of San Francisco because there is no reason to believe the suspect or suspects are from Orinda or remained in the area.
He said at least four people are injured but there may be others who went to hospitals on their own.
NEVADA WATER PIPELINE
Water authority, Clark County argue over Nevada pipeline

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Clark County officials have proposed a public lands bill aiming to create new conservation areas and allow for more development, but critics in Nevada and Utah say its language could permit a proposed water pipeline project.
The Las Vegas Sun reports the draft legislation directs the secretary of the interior to convey federal lands to the water authority and grants them a right of way to federal lands for construction and operation of a power line.
Officials say the proposal calls for the construction of a series of buried pipelines that would pump groundwater along the eastern state border and deliver it to Las Vegas.
Opponents from dozens of regional organizations and tribes say pipeline would suck up needed groundwater, drying plants and potentially causing intense dust storms.
