RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) — An inmate at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins has died after a lengthy illness.

The Wyoming Department of Corrections announced Thursday that 71-year-old Carl M. Stewart, Jr., died Wednesday.

Fremont County District Court Judge Norman E. Young sentenced Stewart in 2011. Stewart was serving 10½ to 12 years in prison for second-degree sexual abuse of a minor when he died.

He previously served a nine-to-10-year sentence for third-degree sexual assault.

Corrections officials ordered an autopsy in accordance with state policy.
