WEST VALLEY CITY — One person was arrested Tuesday in connection with shots fired near a Granger High football game last month.

Shots were fired on Sept. 13 at the school's campus, located at 3580 S. 3600 West. No one was injured in the incident, officials said.

At the time, officials said the shooting appeared to be gang-related.

The juvenile was arrested by Utah Transit Authority police Tuesday afternoon thanks to joint efforts between Granite District police and UTA police, according to Ben Horsely, spokesman for Granite School District.

Officers in plain clothes monitored TRAX activities after several leads indicated the minor and peers had been seen using the service, a news release from the school district stated.

The arrestee, a runaway minor who doesn’t live in West Valley City or attend school anywhere in the Granite School District, could possibly face charges of weapons possession, aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm, and trespassing, according to Horsely.

The boy was initially one of the eight taken into custody on Sept. 13, but was released to family the next morning due to insufficient evidence to hold him.

Additional evidence was gathered several days after and the minor was declared a runaway, the news release states.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

“We are grateful for the diligent efforts of our detectives in conjunction with allied agencies such as UTA Police, to assist in locating this suspect,” Granite Police Chief Randy Porter said in a news release.
