SALT LAKE CITY — A lightning-caused wildfire that started Monday reached 68% containment Wednesday evening, Utah Fire Information officials said.

The blaze, dubbed the Francis Fire, remained at 365 acres as of 6 p.m. and is burning in the hills above Fruit Heights in Davis County

The lightning that caused the fire struck last week and remained smoldering underground, fire officials said.

The fire was 20% contained Tuesday.

Public safety officials warned residents who live near the new burn scar that flooding is now a higher risk for the area.

Brendan Waterman with U.S. National Forest Service said the Francis Fire “burned hotter” than the other fires in Davis County, including the Snoqualmie Fire and Gun Range Fire, which increased the flood risk.

The steep terrain in the area doesn’t offer much protection from flash floods, he added.

This story will be updated with the latest wildfire information.
