WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — A Utah police department has released body camera footage showing the moments before an officer fatally shot a man during an altercation in a DUI processing area.

West Valley City police say 31-year-old Chad Michael Breinholt was under investigation for suspected DUI and was being processed at the police station.

Authorities say Breinholt had his hands cuffed behind his back when he claimed to have a gun hiding in one of his shoes he took off.

Authorities say officers attempted to take the shoe before Breinholt reached for one of the officer's guns.

The officers tried to restrain him, one grabbed the shoe and one fired a fatal shot all within six seconds.

It is unclear whether Breinholt had a weapon.

An investigation by Salt Lake City police is underway.
