SOUTH JORDAN — Two children were critically injured in a car crash Friday, police say, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The driver, a 29-year-old woman, rolled her vehicle at 1173 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South) about 1:47 p.m., ejecting the two children, South Jordan Police Sgt. Sam Winkler said.
The children, who police said were 8 and 9, were transported via ambulance to a hospital with critical injuries but were expected to survive, Winkler said. A medical helicopter was initially requested for the incident but it did not arrive fast enough.
Family later told KSL the children were 10-years-old and 8-years-old.
All lanes were initially closed while police investigated the crash. One lane was reopened about 5:30 p.m. Police said major delays were expected until the scene was cleared and encouraged drivers to use 9000 South or 11400 South as alternate routes.
Additional details, including what lead up to the crash, the relationship between the woman and the children, as well as the woman’s identity, were not immediately released.
