SALT LAKE CITY — A 60-year-old man died Thursday after hitting an SUV, leaving the scene, then crashing into a parked semitruck trailer, police said.
Police aren’t sure if intoxication or a medical event were involved in the crashes, Salt Lake Police Lt. Jenn Diederich said.
The man, who was driving a black truck, hit an SUV and took off after the collision, Diederich said.
The driver of the SUV looked for the black truck after the driver left the scene and found him in a parking lot, she said.
The SUV’s driver wasn’t injured, but his car was damaged in the collision, she noted.
The SUV driver found the 60-year-old man in a parking lot near 1800 S. Bangerter Hwy, and told police he wasn’t acting right — Diederich said police don’t know if this meant he was intoxicated or was experiencing a medical event.
After finding the man, the SUV driver confronted him about the crash and tried to take his car keys away from him.
The driver of the black truck then drove away over grassy areas and ended up northbound on 4650 West, where he crashed into a parked, unattached semitruck trailer at 1815 South about 4:45 p.m., she said.
Police are investigating the incident, Diederich said.
