WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Police in West Valley City have identified a man who was fatally shot by an officer during an arrest. They say 31-year-old Chad Michael Breinholt was under investigation for alleged DUI and was being processed at the police station in the basement of West Valley City Hall. Police told the Deseret News that while Breinholt was being processed for his arrest, an altercation ensued and an officer fired his weapon and Breinholt was fatally shot.

OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A mixed-use recreation trail in Utah has been developing across the state with new projects through two northern counties. The Standard-Examiner reported that state counties partnered with the U.S. Forest Service to develop a 280-mile trail along the shoreline of prehistoric Lake Bonneville. Officials say about 24 miles of trail were completed in Weber County, and an environmental study is underway to begin 39 more miles in Davis County. Officials say construction could begin by the end of 2019.

GARDEN CITY, Utah (AP) — Utah transportation officials plan to install a new type of runaway truck ramp above a highway junction after a third crash at the same location. Utah Department of Transportation officials said the site at Garden City near northern Utah's border with both Idaho and Wyoming would use a cable-arrest system already in use in Wyoming.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah Legislative audit has determined Washington County is expected to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to build and operate a proposed water pipeline. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the proposed Lake Powell pipeline would require a large fee, rate and tax increase and cost about $1.4 billion over the next 50 years. Officials say the 140-mile line would divert water from the Colorado River across southern Utah each year to the Sand Hallow Reservoir to supply the St. George metro area.
