CEDAR CITY — One person is dead and another suffered life-threatening injuries after a three-car crash Friday on southbound I-15 in Cedar City.
When a gray Chevy pickup truck was merging onto I-15 at the 200 North on-ramp about 2:50 p.m., the driver didn’t see a silver Saturn that was already in the lane, according to a news release from Utah Department of Public Safety.
The pickup truck continued to merge and the Saturn’s driver veered left, to avoid being hit, drove into the median, then went airborne. The front bumper of the car caught the cable barrier, which caused the car to flip before landing upright in northbound lanes, the news release stated.
The car was then T-boned on the passenger side by a northbound red Kia. The front passenger of the Saturn died on impact. The driver of the Saturn was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the news release.
The passenger and driver of the Kia were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Chevy truck wasn’t injured and remained on scene to cooperate with investigators.
Officials said everyone involved in the wreck wore seat belts and impairment isn’t suspected as a factor in the crash.
