SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — There's likely a new baby condor at Zion National Park in southwest Utah. Park rangers said Thursday that they suspect a pair of endangered California condors has hatched their first egg because of behavior changes between the birds. They estimate the chick to be about 3 weeks old. If the chick survives, it would be Utah's first successful hatchling.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge is delaying the trial of a Utah man accused of running a multimillion operation selling powerful opioids disguised as prescription drugs. U.S. District Judge Dale Kimball decided Friday that the trial of Aaron Michael Shamo will begin Aug. 12 to give defense attorneys more time to sort through additional evidence in the voluminous case.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah officials have determined that more than 30 deer found near a landfill in northeastern Utah died from starvation, diseases and other causes. The Division of Wildlife Resources said Friday said officials found plastic bags and latex gloves in some of the deers' remains but say the main culprit for their deaths was a harsh winter. Officials learned of the dead deer after hikers shared photos of them strewn across a road near the landfill in the small city of Coalville.

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Authorities say police were able to quickly connect a man to the disappearance and death of a 5-year-old Utah girl using a new type of DNA test that can produce results within hours. KSL-TV reports Logan police used a Rapid DNA test to link 21-year-old Alex Whipple to the Saturday disappearance of his niece, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Shelley. Police had announced Tuesday that they had "strong evidence" against Whipple, leading police to find the body the next day.
