SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A campus spokeswoman says a student has been shot and wounded at Savannah State University in Georgia and a suspect is in custody.
Savanah State spokeswoman Loretta Heyward said the student was taken to a local hospital Tuesday afternoon after being shot outside a student housing complex on campus. She had no information on the student's condition.
Heyward says university police arrested a suspect, who was being taken to a county jail. She says the suspect was not a Savannah State student.
The names of the victim and the suspect were not immediately released. Savannah State was briefly placed on lockdown after the shooting.
At least three other people have been shot in separate crimes on Savannah State's campus since 2014. Two of them were killed.
