ST. GEORGE — Multiple police agencies responded to some sort of physical altercation at a juvenile psychiatric residential treatment center Sunday night, officials report.

Police responded to an altercation at Red Rock Canyon School at 747 St George Blvd. about 8:15 p.m., according to St. George police officer Tiffany Atkin.

Details about how many people were involved or how the altercation began were not immediately available.

Atkin said some teens have been detained for questioning and others were taken to a hospital but did not elaborate on the extent of their injuries.

A SWAT team was also called to the scene and is currently searching the school for others who may have been involved in the altercation or were injured.

Several other agencies including the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Santa Clara-Ivins Fire Department, the St. George Fire Department, the Hurricane Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol, the Washington City Police Department, Gold Cross and Dixie State University Police also responded to assist, according to a Facebook post from the St. George Police Department.

In the post, the police confirmed the situation was under control.

"We want to confirm that there was NO active shooter. There is no threat to the public and the situation is under control," the post said.
