SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon in a crash that shutdown I-15 near the Utah-Arizona state line for a time, emergency officials said.

At about 2 p.m., paramedics were called to a crash involving two motorcycles on I-15 at mile marker 13, roughly 5 miles northeast of Littlefield, Arizona, according to statement posted on the Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire Department Facebook page.

“One of the riders suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene after life-saving measures were unsuccessful,” the statement said. That person’s name has not been released.

A second motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, fire officials said. The freeway was temporarily shut down following the crash but at least one lane has since reopened.

A cause for the crash was unknown Sunday evening, but fire officials said the Arizona Department of Public Safety will be investigating.
