BEIJING (AP) — China's civilian aviation authority has ordered all Chinese airlines to temporarily ground their Boeing 737 Max 8 planes after one of the aircraft crashed in Ethiopia. The authority said the order taking effect at 9 a.m. Beijing time would last nine hours. It said the order was taken out of safety concerns because the crash was the second after another off Indonesia in similar circumstances last year.

Eight Chinese were among the 157 people killed in the Ethiopian crash.
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) — The crash of an Ethiopian Airlines jetliner shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa shattered families and communities. The victims included doctors, an ambassador, relief workers and the former head of a football club. At least two of the dead were husband and wife. A Slovak lawmaker lost his wife and two children. One group says the world of international cooperation had lost "one of its most brilliant advocates."
SHAH ALAM, Malaysia (AP) — An Indonesian woman held two years on suspicion of killing the North Korean leader's half brother has been freed after prosecutors unexpectedly dropped the murder charge against her. Siti Aisyah cried and hugged her co-defendant before leaving the courtroom. Doan Thi Huong's lawyers will seek postponement of her trial. The women had been the only suspects in custody after Kim Jong Nam was killed by VX nerve agent in 2017.
CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelans have reached new levels of desperation as the country's worst blackouts took their toll, gathering in larger numbers than usual at springs in the mountains of Caracas to collect water and scrounging for scarce cash to pay for food in the few shops that were open. Engineers restored power in some places after electricity and communications shut down nationwide Thursday evening, but outages persisted in many areas Sunday.
