PROVO, Utah (AP) — A Utah man who helped a teenager kill herself and filmed the act to fulfill what prosecutors called a fascination with death will serve at least five years and up to life in prison. Tyerell Joe Przybycien apologized to the girl's family as he was sentenced Friday on a child abuse homicide charge. The 19-year-old pleaded guilty in an agreement with prosecutors that avoided a possible murder conviction in the 2017 death of 16-year-old Jchandra Brown.
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Weber State University has a new president. The Utah State Board of Regents voted unanimously Thursday to select Brad Mortensen as the university's 13th president after spending the day interviewing four finalists. Mortensen is the vice president of university advancement at Weber State. Regent Jesselie Anderson, who co-chaired the search committee, says Mortensen was selected among 40 applicants for the position.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City is says two former priests who were removed from their posts years ago after credible reports of sexual abuse. Diocese spokeswoman Jean Hill said Friday in a news release that the alleged abused by former priests Raymond Devlin and Edward J. Konat occurred in the 1980s but were reported to church officials in 1990 and 2002. Devlin died in 2011. It's unknown where Konat lives now.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — New figures show the fierce battle for a U.S. House in Utah where Democrat Ben McAdams narrowly unseated Republican Mia Love was one of the most expensive races in Utah history. Final campaign finance reports filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission show that about $11.4 million combined was spent by the two candidates and outside political groups.
