Forget bedrooms and bathrooms. In Utah, luxury real estate goes beyond the square-footage count (although there’s usually plenty of space). From indoor basketball courts to resort (and-then-some) swimming pools, Utah residents tend to go big when they go home.

See-through everything

Say what you will about glass houses, they certainly make a statement. When it comes to making a splash in the Utah residential market, sometimes you need to make a sheer effort (keyword sheer). In Emigration Canyon, you’ll find a home that’s crystalized the architectural work of John Sugden.

Realtor.com says the 1965 design “pioneered a unique Bauhaus style of architecture.” Supported by a steel frame, the glass walls allow the lucky inhabitant to feel right at home — in the trees. In or outside the forest, you might see glass making a statement in Utah’s luxury homes. Who needs privacy anyway?

Recreational marvels

If you’re a gun aficionado, you might be stoked to find a home with a built-in gun safe. Well, former Utah Jazz star Karl Malone took his hobby a step further when he built his home in Salt Lake City’s high Avenues. The home featured the “basics:” 11 bathrooms and two swimming pools, along with some recreational fun — a gun range.

But Malone wasn’t a one-trick pony, so he made sure his home included a basketball court and indoor stream as well. Sounds like a great way to spend the day — or every day. Unfortunately, homebuyers didn’t necessarily agree. According to Deseret News, the home was listed for $6 million in 2005 but sold for a mere $2.5 million in the pre-slump housing market.

Backyard ski hills

Any alpine enthusiast would kill for a piece of real estate in renowned Park City. Well, how about a property that abuts a world-class ski run? Owners of a luxury alpine retreat like those located in The Colony at White Pine Canyon could experience the thrill of waking up and making the first tracks on fresh powder every morning.

That’s enough to keep most buyers happy, but the “icing” on the proverbial cake might be the properties’ luxurious features. Take this expansive estate, which features five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, European steam shower and breathtaking canyon views.

Almost an entire town

You can’t even use the phrase “everything but the kitchen sink” to describe some Utah mansions — because several have three or four of those — and several more bathroom sinks. Like, maybe 20. That’s how many baths you’ll find “The Barn,” a famous 20-acre property in Orem now listed for a cool $19.5 million.

Along with 20,000 square feet of living space, the property includes everything the basic family needs — a pond stocked with trophy-sized fish, a motocross course and shop, boat house and pool, fantasy tree house and even a private grove of Sequoia trees (who isn’t looking for that in a home?). Add to that spectacular mountain views and an expansive farmhouse design and, well, you won’t feel like you were raised in a barn.

A private oasis

Real estate prices have certainly climbed in the Beehive State, but most people won’t spend $2 million on a Utah home. Well, some Utahns will spend that — just on their swimming pool. A Springville property features a pool to rival any water park — or lake, for that matter.

The pool itself, which has been featured on Animal Planet’s "The Pool Master," is 140 feet long and 60 feet wide. Its myriad features include a 90-foot manmade mountain (complete with waterfalls and hidden tunnels), two bridges, a 300-foot lazy river and secret grotto. The mountain also includes a gourmet kitchen and the entry to a 26-foot dive tank, which requires scuba certification to enter. Pool party, anyone?

If you are in the market for your own Utah home paradise with an indoor pool or the ability to ski just outside the door, chances are you can find everything you are looking for at The Colony at White Pine Canyon.
