Perhaps you love nothing more than sweating it out with a group of friends (or strangers) at a group fitness class or 5K. Or maybe the idea of showing up at a yoga studio or gym to work out with others makes you want to run (literally) for the hills.

However, recent studies have shown that those who exercise consistently in a group setting report greater boosts over time in their mental well-being, physical fitness and emotional stability. Why? Because working out with others in a class, at a special event or even at the gym can be motivating and help you keep committed to your lifestyle goals, not to mention introduce you to new friends and activities and have fun.

Studies have shown that those who exercise consistently in a group setting report greater boosts over time in their mental well-being, physical fitness and emotional stability.

Whether you’ve tried and love group fitness or want to test it out for the first time, Station Park in Farmington offers classes and events for people of all ages, abilities and interests.

LIFT at Station Park

Locally owned and independent, LIFT is a 25,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art gym that offers a variety of group exercise classes every day of the week from sunup to sundown. Cycle, cardio, High Fitness, power tone, yoga, step, Pilates, Zumba, barre … you name it, LIFT's got it, and all classes are included in the membership.

“We have something for all ages at our gym,” said Kim Paulsen, LIFT owner. “From high-intensity classes to lower intensity, there’s a perfect balance for all ages.”

Interested in trying out a group fitness class, but not sure you’re ready to commit to a gym membership? LIFT offers a free four-day trial pass or a $5/day pass for those who just want to drop in and test out the facility. And with affordable gym packages for individuals, families and doubles; discounts for seniors and other populations, and no hidden fees, LIFT has distinguished itself as a very reasonable choice to meet your fitness needs.

Lululemon

More than just an apparel retailer, Lululemon at Station Park regularly hosts a variety of workout classes and events that are free and open to the public. Most recently, Lululemon celebrated Global Run Day with a guided trot on the Lagoon Trail in Farmington, followed by a yoga for runners class.

“We have done yoga events, High Fitness events, boot-camp-style workouts, mindful meditation experiences and more," said assistant store manager Kaitlyn Schwalbe. “What I would share with someone who’s nervous about attending is that we are a judgment-free community. We love making friends and working out with new people.”

In addition to the perks of working out with friends and enjoying the energy of a group event, Schwalbe said, Lululemon also feels every good party has gifts, ranging from free food to giveaways. Grab some friends and join Lululemon at Station Park on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. for its 20th birthday event with Orangetheory Fitness and Relaxation Fitness ambassadors: “Laughter, Lunges and Lemons, Oh My!” Follow the Lululemon Salt Lake City Facebook page for information about other upcoming events and classes scheduled at Lululemon at Station Park.

Root to Rise Yoga Studio

Offering yoga, aerial and acrobatic classes, Root to Rise Yoga Studio at Station Park has something for everyone at every age.

“Parents can bring their kids in for the various kids yoga/aerial/tumbling classes and enjoy a yoga session at the same time,” said Chantel Flanders, one of the studio’s owners. “Individuals and families can take advantage of our ‘open gyms,’ where you come in and work on whatever you’d like in the yoga studio or on an apparatus.”

Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or timid beginner, Root to Rise offers all types of yoga, from beginner to power, restorative, yin, yoga for stiffer bodies and, yes, even aerial yoga. In fact, Root to Rise boasts more aerial apparatus than anyone else in the state. Root to Rise offers classes all day long, every day of the week, and the first week of classes is always free for Utah residents.

“Come enjoy all-class access on us to get an idea of what you like best, and then determine what option works best for you,” Flanders said. Root to Rise offers punch passes and drop-in rates, or you can save big on monthly memberships if you attend three or more classes a week.

Not sure a group yoga class is for you? Watch the talented yogis of Root to Rise in an acrobatic and aerial performance set to Disney songs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 outside at the Station Park Fountain Square.

Nike Factory Store

The Nike Factory Store at Station Park also offers community events and activities for the whole family. Nike hosted a Back to School Bash earlier this month and will have additional future events.
