GREAT NECK, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a 66-year-old woman who claimed she needed to "rid the house of evil" fatally stabbed a visitor from England in an unprovoked attack.

Faye Doomchin, of Great Neck, Long Island, is being held without bail after being arraigned Tuesday on murder charges. Her lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, tells Newsday his client suffers from mental illness.

Police say the 60-year-old victim — who was staying with a man who knew Doomchin — was having coffee and cake at the attacker's home on Monday.

Sometime during the visit, police say Doomchin made a statement that she didn't like the woman from England. Police say she then appeared from the kitchen with a knife and stabbed the woman once in the chest.

The unidentified victim's name has not yet been released.
