BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia man who admitted to setting his girlfriend ablaze in front of her daughter and niece has been sentenced to life in prison.
The Register-Herald reports a judge ordered Monday no mercy for 48-year-old Dwayne Michael Lane, meaning he won't have the possibility of parole. Lane received life without mercy for the first-degree murder of Belinda Cox. He was also sentenced for domestic battery and other charges. The judge ordered all the sentences run consecutively.
Lane admitted to dousing Cox in gasoline in September and setting her ablaze. Cox was found unresponsive in a neighbor's yard and later died at a hospital.
Lane has said the burning incident stemmed from the culmination of money concerns, unknown phone calls on Cox's phone and her choice of makeup.
